To answer the question “How can/should historians decide significance” is a tough question. I believe that in order for something to be historically significant it has to affect many people and or change something about the world that the event took place in such as WWII or 9/11. When historians are deciding what's significant they run into many problems such as who is significant. I believe if whatever action that someone took is relevant to many other people such as MLK, his stand against society started a historical movement that would go down in history. How does the Silk Road fit my personal criteria? I think it fits quite well, the Silk Road is known for being the biggest and well-known trade route from China to India. This major trade route affected many people with a spread of new ideas and trade options.
